Two garden open in Ashington, West Sussex for the National Garden Scheme.
Hollyoaks is a small cottage style garden with specimen trees, heavily planted borders with shrubs, perennials, roses, clematis, dahlias and fuchsias. A pond and a variety of containers surround the patio. At the front is a scree bed and borders with roses, shrubs and perennials. Climbing roses and climbing hydrangeas clothe the front of the house and baskets and containers overflow.
The garden at Cloud Cottage has been created over the past 4 years to provide year-round interest. At the front is a sycamore underplanted with shade loving plants and bulbs, inc Epimediums, Hostas and Ferns. The side and rear garden has a series of rooms with a large terrace, pond, mixed shrub and herbaceous beds, a Japanese style garden, a fruit and vegetable cage, greenhouses and further shrub and mixed borders.
The gardens are open in aid of the National Garden Scheme. The NGS have donated over £63 million to nursing and health charities and made an annual donation of over £3 million in 2021. Their core beneficiaries include Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie, Hospice UK and The Queen’s Nursing Institute.
