A Christmas Carol is Cancelled

Just a week before the presentation of “A Christmas Carol” at The Players Theatre, Hurstpierpoint, from 9th – 18th December, the decision was taken to cancel the production.    Many factors led to this and one was the rapidly increasing cases of Covid 19 in the local area, already giving health authorities cause for concern.    Also, while ticket sales started well they had, perhaps understandably, declined.

Another major cause for concern was the number of cast members missing rehearsals due to unavoidable illness, some of which was Covid related.  With the possibility of one or more of the cast testing positive for Covid nearer to production dates, cancellation was felt to be the only option to safeguard audiences, cast and crew.

Thanks to immediate action by the Players’ box office staff all ticket purchases were refunded before the end of December.

The Players hope that disappointed audiences will understand the reasons for this cancellation and look forward to welcoming everyone back in the New Year.  The first production of 2022 will be Alan Ayckbourn’s “How the Other Half Loves” directed by Richard Coney, running from 29th March to 2nd April.
