Housebuilder Celebrates Roald Dahl’s Heritage Via Storytelling Session At Local School

To celebrate Roald Dahl Day on 13th September right in the heart of his hometown, children at Kingsbrook View Primary Academy were treated to a storytelling day thanks to Barratt David Wilson Homes, the housebuilder who is behind the latest selection of homes at the Kingsbrook development. The interactive session, led by a renowned storyteller, oversaw the children understanding the importance of knowing and understanding their local area.

Roald Dahl’s heritage is deeply celebrated in Aylesbury and the wider Buckinghamshire area, having lived in nearby Great Missenden for over 40 years and the local area inspiring many of his books. Aylesbury is also home to The Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre, which Kingsbrook View Primary Academy recently visited for their summer trip. From Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, to Matilda, Kingsbrook View Primary Academy’s year three pupils were told a variety of stories from the vault of Roald Dahl’s classics by storyteller, Helen Tozer, who used puppets to visually tell the stories. Throughout the session, the children focused on understanding the importance of community, from how to celebrate local heritage to how to contribute to their local area in a purposeful way.

Marc Woolfe, Director of Sales at Barratt David Wilson North Thames, commented: “Roald Dahl was an incredible figure, whose stories has lit up generations of children. It is only right as a local housebuilder that we ensure the next generation of local children in Aylesbury experience the joys of his stories too, especially those inspired in the local area! A persistent feature of Roald Dahl’s stories was the magic of imagination, community and friendships, and the storytelling session was the perfect way to reiterate this to better our community here in Buckinghamshire.”

Storyteller Helen Tozer added: “The storytelling session was a great way to celebrate Roald Dahl and was really enjoyed by all pupils. It was incredible to see how fascinated they all were and I believe this is due to the local connection here in Aylesbury to Roald Dahl. Having worked with Barratt David Wilson Homes many times, I know just how committed they are not only towards children’s education, but also to the bettering of the local community, a message that was appreciated by the pupils and teachers too.”

Mr Jon Turner, Kingsbrook View Primary Academy’s Headteacher concludes: “The storytelling session was a great way to kickstart the new term here at Kingsbrook View Academy and the children were certainly inspired on the day! It is amazing to see organisations like Barratt David Wilson Homes being so dedicated to supporting the development of our future generation, with events like these being integral for their awareness of their local area, which will only go on to support their journeys into the big wide world. We are very grateful to Barratt David Wilson Homes for organizing this superb session.”
