Council starts distributing £150 energy rebates

Mid Sussex District Council is currently distributing payments of £150 to help eligible local people cope with rising energy costs.

The one-off £150 payments, which are being provided by Central Government, are available to Mid Sussex households in Council Tax bands A-D.

Residents who live in a Band E property and receive a disabled reduction in Council Tax are also eligible for the rebate.

So far, Mid Sussex District Council has allocated more than £2.7 million to 18,000 households and payments will continue to be made throughout the month.

Residents who pay Council Tax by Direct Debit will have either been paid the £150 Energy Rebate or contacted by the end of May. The Council aims to pay as many people as possible automatically but in some cases, residents may be asked to provide further information. Anyone who pays by other means is encouraged to apply online at

Councillor Jonathan Ash-Edwards, Leader of Mid Sussex District Council said:

“Many people are struggling with the cost of living at the moment and the Government is taking a number of actions to try and help with the cost of energy bills. One of those is a £150 cash rebate that will not need to be repaid.

“If you pay your Council Tax by Direct Debit, there’s nothing you need to do further. Unless we contact you for further information, the money will be paid to you by the end of this month.

“If you pay your Council Tax in a different way, you can still get the £150 Energy Rebate, but you will need to apply online at www.midsussex, .The process is quick and simple, so if you live in a Council Tax Band A-D property and you haven’t applied yet, please make sure you do that today.”

The Council also has a local scheme to help Mid Sussex residents on low incomes who do not qualify for the Central Government Energy Rebate. People who live in a Council Tax Band E – H property and are in receipt of Council Tax Support are eligible to apply for a one-off payment of £150 at www.midsussex, . This scheme will be extended to other vulnerable groups soon.

Grant Approval is an authorised third-party system the Council is using to administer and pay the £150 Energy Rebates.
